What are wearables?

What are wearables?

Wearables can be divided into passive and active wearables. You can read the difference between these two hereAdornPay sells passive wearables. With these, it is not immediately visible that it is a wearable. Everyone will think it is just a regular piece of jewelry, while you can use it for payments and as your digital business card at the same time. The wearable contains, just like a debit card, an NFC chip integrated into the jewelry. The advantage of a passive wearable is that you can transform a ‘fashion item’ into a payment item. Important information about the warranty and lifespan of the chips in our wearables can be found here.

How does payment with a wearable work?

All you have to do at the checkout is hold your wearable within 2 centimeters of the payment terminal, just like you normally do with your debit card or mobile phone. With our ring, you pay by giving the payment terminal a fist bump (don’t forget to give the cashier a fist bump too)

In the Netherlands, you can pay contactless up to 50 euros without entering a PIN on the payment terminal. Above this amount, you need to enter a PIN on the payment terminal itself. You can find the PIN in the Curve or VIMpay app.

If you lose your wearable, you can easily block it, just like your debit card, in the Manage Mii app. The advantage of our wearables is that they look like ‘normal’ jewelry. When someone finds the jewelry, it is not immediately obvious that it is a payment jewelry. This makes misuse of the wearable very unlikely.

Prepaid or linked to your account

You can link your wearable to your payment account, which many people find most convenient. In the Netherlands, you can currently only link a credit card or a new VISA or Mastercard debit card (with card number) directly to your wearable (via Curve). Unfortunately, linking a Maestro debit card directly is not possible.

If you are a customer of Rabobank, ABN Amro, ING, Bunq, Knab, SNS bank, or Triodos, you can already request a new payment card (VISA or Mastercard debit card with card number) from the bank and easily link it directly to your wearable!

Some banks in the EU support directly linking your bank account to your wearable, so without using Curve. Click here to see the full list of banks.

MuchBetter

Because AdornPay wants everyone in the Netherlands to be able to pay with our wearables, you can also choose a prepaid option with us called "MuchBetter". This is similar to a prepaid credit card or a prepaid SIM card for a phone. You can top up the card by depositing an amount onto it (via the MuchBetter app). You can then pay with your wearable up to the amount you have deposited, after which you can top up the wearable again.

More information about the prepaid MuchBetter option and activating your wearable can be found here.

Curve & VIMpay

After purchasing your wearable, you can link it to a Curve or VIMpay account.

Curve is a (free) wallet that combines multiple payment cards in one mobile app. This allows you to make payments with one (virtual) card.

Note: Currently, you can only link credit cards & the new debit cards (VISA or Mastercard with card number) to your Curve wallet. Unfortunately, an old Maestro debit card cannot be linked.

If you are a customer of Rabobank, ABN Amro, ING, Bunq, Knab, SNS bank, or Triodos, you can already request a new payment card (VISA or Mastercard debit card with card number) from the bank and easily link it directly to your wearable!

VIMpay is an app where you can create a free, virtual prepaid credit card. Ideal if you don’t have a credit card.

Note: VIMpay only works if you are a resident of Germany or Austria. You need a German or Austrian phone number and bank account number to register.

More information about how to activate and link your wearable with Curve or VIMpay can be found here

Extra feature

Besides being an easy and fast payment method, our wearables also allow you to share your personalized digital business card. Simply hold your wearable against someone else’s phone, and your business card will appear and can be easily added to their contacts list.
